Nottingham City Council is hiring a Coroner's Officer in Nottingham. The role supports HM Coroner in investigations across Nottinghamshire, liaising with families, medical staff, police and pathologists to gather information for coronial decisions.
The ideal candidate will have office experience in a high-pressure environment, strong numeracy, and excellent computer skills. We offer hybrid working and a favourable benefits package including generous leave and a defined benefit pension.
Working Hours: 37 per week 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday
Worker Type: Hybrid Worker (3 days in office per week)
Salary: Starting Salary is £29,542 (Level one) rising to £32,046

As a Coroner's Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting HM Coroner in the investigation of deaths across Nottinghamshire. You will liaise with bereaved families, medical professionals, police, pathologists and other partner agencies, gathering and assessing information to support coronial decision-making. The role involves managing sensitive and complex cases, preparing inquest files, coordinating post-mortem examinations, and assisting with court hearings, while providing a compassionate, professional and high-quality service to all those affected by bereavement. This is a varied and rewarding position requiring excellent communication skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism.
This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English, is an essential requirement for the role.
