Job summary

Nottingham City Council is hiring a Coroner's Officer in Nottingham. The role supports HM Coroner in investigations across Nottinghamshire, liaising with families, medical staff, police and pathologists to gather information for coronial decisions.

The ideal candidate will have office experience in a high-pressure environment, strong numeracy, and excellent computer skills. We offer hybrid working and a favourable benefits package including generous leave and a defined benefit pension.

Qualifications

• Proven successful office experience in a high pressured and sensitive environment.
• Able to produce neat, clear and accurate work and have good numeracy skills.
• Ability to demonstrate excellent and accurate computer skills and the ability to use a variety of software packages and applications to support the delivery of the service.
• Ability to apply complex medical terms and discuss with professional stakeholders and bereaved families in a professional and understanding manner.
• A full understanding of customer care and the ability to deal with customers with tact, discretion and understanding, and to be able to deal with challenging and emotional behaviour.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with bereaved families, medical professionals, police, pathologists and other partner agencies, gathering and assessing information to support coronial decision-making.
• Manage sensitive and complex cases, preparing inquest files, coordinating post-mortem examinations, and assisting with court hearings.
• Provide a compassionate, professional and high-quality service to all those affected by bereavement.
