Job summary

Milestones Trust in Pewsey, England, is seeking a Cook to manage all aspects of running a safe, clean kitchen and to deliver a varied menu for residents in a learning disabilities setting.

You will work mostly independently, ensuring high hygiene standards, preparing meals to meet dietary needs and following IDDSI guidelines. The role offers a supportive team environment and opportunities for development within Milestones Trust.

Qualifications

  • You must have experience and knowledge to maintain good kitchen hygiene standards.
  • You don’t need to be a qualified Chef, however experience in preparing and delivering meals in a professional setting is highly desirable.
  • Ability to follow IDDSI guidelines for texture-modified meals when required.

Working in this 18 bedded and friendly nursing home for people with learning disabilities and complex health needs, you will be responsible for all aspects of running a safe, clean kitchen and delivering a varied menu of healthy, delicious meals. Mealtimes are an important occasion to the people we support in their home, not just to gain good nutrition but also to socialise and enjoy flavours and colours.

You must have experience and knowledge to maintain good kitchen hygiene standards. You don’t need to be a qualified Chef, however experience in preparing and delivering meals in a professional setting is highly desirable.

Many of the people we support have specific needs, where their food must be prepared in the right way so that they can safely enjoy their meals. For example, they may have difficulty chewing and swallowing and need softer foods prepared following IDDSI guidelines. If you don’t have experience in this training will be provided. Others may need to manage their weight, have food intolerances, or have diabetes.

As you will be working alone in the kitchen, you will be expected to manage your own workload as there will be multiple task that need to carry out throughout the shift. You will also need to communicate effectively with staff and people we support as you will be an essential part of the team that makes this home a great place to live and work.

As a Cook, your responsibilities will include:
