Job description

We are looking for a Cook/Kitchen Assistant for Nursing Home for our fabulous care home situated in Giltbrook, Nottingham.

Our beautiful award-winning care home, located in Giltbrook, Nottingham, requires experienced, professional staff to expand our team. We strive for and provide a high standard of care for our residents. Our care home offers exceptional nursing and dementia care in a lovely setting with great care and friendly staff. We celebrate the close-knit family and community we have in our home, celebrating each resident, creating good relationships with them and their relatives.

To join our team it will be important for you to have demonstrative experience of a similar position in a care home or similar environment and ideally have the relevant Food Hygiene certificate or relevant qualifications and/or experience.

Location: Giltbrook, Nottingham, NG16 2GE (near the IKEA Nottingham) – please check to see if you are able to commute before applying

Days: 2-3 days/week, must be available to work weekends.

Hours: 7am until 3-4pm

Shifts: Approximately 10am-3pm

Pay: National Minimum Wage

Contract: Bank/Part-time with the possibility of full time (to cover annual leave and sickness)

Job Description

• The planning and preparation of high-quality meals and snacks for residents from freshy sourced produce.
• To order, plan and deliver the full dining experience with fresh high-quality catering, contributing to the overall wellbeing of the residents.
• Prepare and cook all daily meals for residents, provide catering for special occasions and events, such as birthday cakes.
• Ensure the quality and presentation of the food is to the highest standard and specification.
• To be responsible for monitoring and recording, day to day production schedule of each menu item.
• Understand and encourage the principles of safe food handling to ensure all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen is to the highest standards of hygiene.
• Track and monitor temperature checks of refrigerators and freezers to ensure food is stored safely. To ensure all food is stored, handled, and packed at the correct temperature and in accordance with Food Handling and Hygiene Regulations.
• Prepare and oversee the cleaning rota, to ensure the regular cleaning of all kitchen areas, equipment, and appliances to meet the high standards of infection control and cleanliness necessary in food storage, preparation, and service areas.
• Understand your personal responsibilities and practice safe systems of work in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act including a working knowledge of COSHH assessments.
• Practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety of residents, visitors, and staff, to include completion of correct HSE paperwork.
• Use and clean kitchen equipment and have the knowledge to observe the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995.
• Use machinery as shown and trained to ensure equipment is used safely and stored in accordance with legislation, and reporting of equipment issues to your line manager.
• Take reasonable care of items of equipment used to carry out tasks, including general cleanliness and advising on any faults and the need for maintenance or replacement.
• To ensure that work areas are kept clean and that all waste is recorded and disposed of correctly.
