The Role of Cook -
This is a casual (bank) position.
- As a Cook, you’ll have a relevant Certificate in Food Hygiene, or be prepared to obtain one within the first three months in the role. You will have demonstrable experience of cooking varied, healthy, and safe meals for large groups (twelve or more, sometimes up to 20), regularly.
- You’ll have good communication skills and the ability to work well with others as part of a team. You should be able to read and write to a good standard in a modern working environment.
- You’ll be methodical and highly organized; keeping your kitchen and equipment clean and tidy, with an effective stock rotation system.
- You should demonstrate empathy and understanding of the nutritional needs of older people.
About You
- You will create healthy, balanced menus in consultation with residents and staff, reflecting residents’ needs and preferences.
- You will plan, prepare, and cook meals according to the menu, considering personal preferences and dietary requirements (e.g., diabetes).
- You will ensure a safe and sufficient supply of catering products by developing a timely ordering system, and maintain good stock control through accurate record-keeping of orders and deliveries.
- Managing catering costs within the budget through effective stock rotation and control is essential.
- You will ensure the safe use of catering equipment, report any defects, and adhere to kitchen cleaning procedures in line with Environmental Health standards, maintaining a hygienic environment.
- Using all equipment and products correctly in accordance with COSHH requirements, reviewing COSHH assessments regularly, and participating in food safety record-keeping are key responsibilities.
- This casual role offers competitive pay benchmarked against similar roles within the organization.
- Depending on hours worked, you will accrue paid leave at a rate equivalent to 31 days per year, including bank/public holidays (pro-rata).
- Mandatory training will be provided as part of a comprehensive induction, and keeping training up to date is expected for ongoing assignments.
