Job summary

Hollybank Trustees Ltd invites applications for a Cook at Furze Hill House in North Walsham. You will prepare nutritious meals for residents, maintain high hygiene standards and work as part of a caring kitchen team in a residential care setting.

We offer induction, ongoing training and a supportive environment with flexible hours and weekend shifts. A Food Hygiene Certificate is advantageous and training is provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience cooking for 30+ people.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and food safety.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to support the Christian ethos of the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious, balanced meals for residents.
  • Maintain food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Observe temperature controls during cooking and serving.
  • Maintain kitchen records and stock rotation to minimise waste.
  • Keep kitchen and storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Operate equipment safely and follow health and safety guidelines.
  • Attend training and contribute to a positive home environment.

We currently have an opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook to join our team at our residential care home at Furze Hill House, North Walsham.

We provide a loving and caring environment for our residents, whilst maintaining the Christian ethos that is so important to them. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment, takes pride in preparing home-cooked meals, and understands the importance of providing nutritious, balanced food that contributes to the wellbeing and happiness of our residents.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve nutritious, balanced and attractive meals, taking into account individual preferences and special dietary requirements.
  • Ensure all food hygiene and food safety standards are maintained in line with current regulations.
  • Observe minimum temperature requirements during cooking, reheating, hot holding and serving of food.
  • Maintain accurate kitchen records and documentation as required.
  • Store food correctly and manage stock rotation to minimise waste and control costs.
  • Maintain the kitchen, food storage areas, equipment, crockery, cutlery and utensils in a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Use kitchen equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and health and safety requirements.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required.
  • Support a positive and engaging home environment and contribute to activities that enhance residents' quality of life.
  • Work as part of a team and undertake other reasonable duties within your capabilities.

About You
  • You enjoy working with older people and have a caring and compassionate approach.
  • You will have experience preparing and/ or cooking meals for 30 plus people
  • You understand the importance of food hygiene, food safety and maintaining high standards.
  • You are organised, reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • A Food Hygiene Certificate would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
  • Experience within a care home, healthcare or similar environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • You are willing to support and uphold the Christian ethos of the organisation.

Shifts available: 35 hours per week (includes some weekend shifts)
