Birchlands Care is seeking a Cook for Birchlands Nursing Home in Haxby to assist in food preparation and cooking for residents. You will follow menus, maintain high hygiene standards and support junior staff in catering tasks.

Experience in health care is beneficial; NVQ Level 2 in Catering is actively supported for progression. This role offers varied hours and opportunities for training and development within the home.

Qualifications

• Food hygiene and safety awareness
• Ability to supervise and train junior staff
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations and infection control
• Labeling and storage of food
• Kitchen cleanliness and equipment maintenance
• Attend in-service training on relevant topics
• Security procedures and resident safety

Responsabilités

• Assist in preparation and cooking of meals for residents
• Follow menus and health & safety policies
• Supervise and train junior catering staff
• Train staff on Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and COSHH
• Ensure correct labeling and proper storage of foods
• Keep kitchen orderly, clean and secure
• Attend training for safety (Fire, Infection Control, Basic Food Hygiene, COSHH)
• Record accidents, incidents and complaints as required

We are looking for a Cookto assist in the preparation and cooking of food for our residents.

Duties of the cookinclude:

• To assist in the preparation and cooking of food following menus preparedGroup Catering Manager
• To take personal responsibility in becoming fully aware of Health & Safety at Work Policies in particular Fire Procedures, Control of Infection, COSHH and Lifting and Handling Policies
• To supervise and help train junior staff in catering duties.
• To train junior staff in all Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and COSHH regulations and ensuring their compliance with the same.
• To ensure the correct labelling and storage of food at all times.
• To assistant kitchen staff with washing up.
• To clean and maintain kitchen appliances, surfaces and floors as per cleaning schedule.
• To ensure the kitchen is locked and secure before going off duty.
• To attend in-service training for Moving and Handling Infection Control Fire Safety Basic Food Hygiene COSHH
• To assist in ensuring the security of all residents and the premises through the observance of security procedures and the challenging of any strangers in the Home.
• To ensure all accidents, incidents and complaints are recorded and reported.

Experience of the cook

• Previous experience of work within a health care setting is not essential, but may be an advantage, for example experience of a nursing home, hospital or working with clients with disability and/or dementia
• Must already have or be willing to work towards NVQ Level 2 in Catering which Morris Care will fully support.
