Job summary

Escape in West of Scotland is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join the engineering team. You will design, program and commission control systems across projects, working with PLCs, HMIs and protection relays, while collaborating with electrical, mechanical and other engineers.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, testing and documentation, with hybrid working options and a generous benefits package for a versatile engineer.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic/Control Systems Engineering or related field.
• Experience with industrial control systems and PLC programming.
• Experience developing or configuring HMI systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Job description

An established engineering business in the West of Scotland is looking to recruit an experienced Controls Engineer to join its engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in control systems, PLC programming and electrical protection to work on technically interesting projects from initial design and development through to testing and commissioning.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a range of control and protection systems, contributing to the development and optimisation of complex engineering solutions.

The Role

As Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, programming and commissioning of control systems, working closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver robust and reliable solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing control system solutions for engineering projects
• Programming and configuring PLC systems
• Developing and configuring HMI and monitoring systems
• Setting up and configuring electrical protection systems and protection relays
• Working with generator controllers, ECUs and digital AVR systems
• Supporting control system tuning and optimisation
• Working with controls associated with switchgear, transformers and other electrical equipment
• Supporting testing and commissioning activities both in-house and at customer sites
• Diagnosing faults and resolving technical issues
• Producing technical documentation, specifications, reports and test procedures
• Working collaboratively with electrical, mechanical and other engineering teams

About You

We're looking for an experienced Controls Engineer with a practical and technically strong approach.

You should ideally have:

• A degree/HND/HNC or equivalent experience in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline
• Previous experience working with industrial control systems
• Strong PLC programming and configuration experience
• Experience developing or configuring HMI systems
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
