Job summary

Vantage Consulting is seeking a Controls Engineer to join our Nottingham team. The role covers design, coding and testing of software for PLCs and embedded systems, with on-site commissioning across the UK and Ireland.

You will work with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000 and multiple languages, and liaise with Electrical Design Engineers to define specifications and equipment needs. The ideal candidate holds a degree in controls/software and has hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, motor

Qualifications

• Degree-level education in controls or software subject.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, motor drives and remote I/O.
• Knowledge of on-site commissioning and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Spec, design, coding and testing of software for PLCs and embedded systems.
• Configure PLCs, HMIs, motor drives and remote I/O.
• Develop software in Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000 and languages such as C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python, HTML.
• Liaise with Electrical Design Engineers for control system specs.
• Sourcing alternative electrical panel hardware and control system components.
• Oversee electrical control panel builds.
• Identify electrical and control equipment for product sourcing and spare parts.
• In-house testing of control systems to meet specs and safety standards.
• On-site commissioning within the UK and Ireland of control systems.
• Document for colleagues, commissioning engineers, maintenance staff and end users.
• Support sales with time/material estimates; customer visits for requirements.
• Support Engineering/Project Managers with timescale estimates.
• Respond to help requests from customers regarding controls systems.

Responsibilities and experience:

• Specification, design, coding and testing of software systems based on standard industrial control hardware such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), micro-controllers or other embedded systems.
• Configuration industrial control hardware such as PLCs, HMls, motor drives and remote i/o
• Design, coding, and testing of software in various development environments such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000 and other computer languages such as C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python, HTML.

• Liaise with Electrical Design Engineers for control system design and instrumentation specification
• Sourcing alternative electrical panel hardware as well as control system hardware where specified equipment is not available
• Oversee Electrical control panel builds
• Identify electrical and control equipment for product sourcing existing systems spare parts
• In-house testing of control systems to ensure that the functional specification is met and that the controls system conforms to relevant codes of practice and safety standards
• On-site commissioning within the UK and Ireland of control systems containing
• Documentation for both fellow colleagues, commissioning engineers, maintenance staff and end users
• Support to sales staff in terms of providing time and material estimates for proposed control systems. This support may also involve customer visits for clarification of requirements
• Support to the Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager for reporting and accurate estimation of project timescales
• Respond to help requests from existing customers in relation to their controls systems

Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent in a controls/software related subject.
