Job description

2025 sees MoneyGram Haas F1 Team celebrate its tenth season in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship… we’re just getting started. We don’t follow the status quo, we’re here to challenge the competition, and we want you to join us.

The first American Formula 1 team to compete in the sport since 1986, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team made an immediate impression with a memorable points-scoring debut at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix. Nine years later, the team continues to demonstrate growth and a clear direction with its future objectives – coming off the back of its second-best season to date in Formula 1.

We’re a racing team – not a corporate machine. We have three HQs – Kannapolis in the US, Banbury in the UK, and Maranello in Italy – each powered by passionate, loyal, and hardworking team ambassadors. General Summary

This position reports to the Head of Controls and Systems or their designee; is located in Banbury, UK. Supporting all on-car control systems at race and test events. Responsible for ensuring control systems are configured correctly and within the FIA set guidelines. Work with race engineers and drivers on improvements and tuning of the systems to the drivers and teams’ requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  2. Manage all aspects of starts from practice procedures to the actual race starts. This includes clutch management, working closely with Head of Controls and Systems, VPG, and Ferrari as required.
  3. Monitor control system health and performance during garage fire-ups and during track running.
  4. Management of differential, PU torque maps, and brake maps, from configuring base settings to collaboration with Race Engineers, Performance Engineers, and Tyre Science engineers to select settings both pre-session and during running based on car data.
  5. Produce a report after each event highlighting faults/issues and observations.
  6. Work with Ferrari electronics, ERS, and engine engineers on all aspects of the car systems.
  7. Assist in troubleshooting on all on-car electronics/calibration problems, with in-depth knowledge and understanding of SECU code.
  8. Ensure the control systems are set up and working within the FIA guidelines.
  9. Send DTV files to the FIA for parc fermé compliance, compare DTV files between cars to ensure there are no errors.
  10. Support team’s simulator activities as required, which may include occasional travel to Italy.
  11. Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the Head of Controls and Systems or their designee.
Education and Work Experience
  • Degree or equivalent in control systems engineering.
  • Previous experience working with control systems in a high-level motorsport environment is essential.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong technical background in racing car control systems.
  • Ability to work to a high standard in stressful and time-sensitive situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills, working through problems scientifically and analytically.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.
  • A sympathetic approach to colleagues and the ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to help others.
Equipment and Applications
  • Mclaren Applied ATLAS, Mclaren Applied System Monitor, MATLAB, and Simulink are essential.
  • Mclaren Applied ADS, VB, C++ are desirable.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Ability to work and prioritize within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment while maintaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require extensive domestic and international travel and long, flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting, manual dexterity, and working in a fast-paced environment with machinery, race cars, rigs, debris, and hazardous fluids. Compliance with health and safety policies is mandatory.
