Elev8 Recruitment Ltd is helping to fill a Controls Engineer role in Bungay, Suffolk. This on‑site, full‑time position focuses on taking machines from build through testing, commissioning and customer sign‑off, with diverse projects and hands‑on work.

The role involves PLC programming on Siemens/Allen‑Bradley/Mitsubishi platforms, commissioning machinery, fault‑finding and configuring drives, HMIs and motion control, along with collaboration across design and project teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in automation, special purpose machinery or machine building.
• PLC programming experience using platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi or similar.
• Strong commissioning and fault‑finding capability.
• Understanding of HMIs, drives, motors and industrial networks.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Programming and modifying PLC and HMI systems.
• Commissioning automated machinery and production equipment.
• Fault‑finding across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and controls systems.
• Configuring servo drives, VFDs and motion control systems.
• Supporting machine testing and performance improvements.
• Working closely with design, build and project teams to solve technical issues.
• Documenting modifications and commissioning activities.
• Occasional travel to customer sites within the UK and overseas.

Working Pattern: Full-time, on-site

We’re supporting a specialist automation business that designs and builds bespoke machinery for a broad range of manufacturing environments. Every project is different. The work is hands‑on, varied and focused on getting complex automated systems running reliably in the real world.

You’ll join a commissioning and controls team responsible for taking machines from build completion through testing, commissioning and customer sign‑off.

What you’ll be doing

• Programming and modifying PLC and HMI systems
• Commissioning automated machinery and production equipment
