Job summary

Wagstaff Recruitment is seeking a skilled Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to join our team in Wolverhampton. The role focuses on maintaining, improving and developing control and instrumentation systems across operations, with a strong emphasis on reliability and continuous improvement.

The position offers a salary of £45,000–£50,000 per year, a Monday–Friday 7:00am–3:00pm schedule, and excellent benefits including enhanced pension, private medical insurance and life assurance (6x annual

Qualifications

  • Experience in a Controls & Instrumentation, Electrical, or Automation Engineering role.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of DCS, instrumentation, control systems and industrial processes.
  • Willingness to pursue further electrical qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting control and instrumentation systems.
  • Supporting plant reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Diagnosing faults and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assisting with automation, DCS, PLC, and process control improvements.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards.
  • Supporting project work and system upgrades as required.

The Role

As a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting control and instrumentation systems
  • Supporting plant reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Diagnosing faults and implementing effective corrective actions

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Experience within a Controls & Instrumentation, Electrical, or Automation Engineering role
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
  • Knowledge of DCS, instrumentation, control systems, and industrial processes
  • A proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement
  • Electrical qualifications or a willingness to further develop professionally
