Job summary

Prime Appointments Ltd is seeking a Control Systems Engineer in Colchester for end-to-end project work, from initial design through on-site commissioning. You will travel within the UK and abroad to commission systems, delivering robust control solutions for rail, marine, and oil & gas sectors.

The role requires strong PLC programming, AutoCAD, and SCADA/HMI expertise, plus a degree in a relevant engineering field. Travel and on-site commissioning form part of the duties.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in control systems design and implementation.
• Strong PLC programming skills with Allen Bradley Rockwell.
• Proficiency with SCADA and HMI systems.
• AutoCAD experience is essential.
• Knowledge of industrial networks (Profibus, Ethernet, DeviceNet).
• Degree in Control, Automation or Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Experience with safety-critical or SIL-rated systems is a plus.
• Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed control system designs, wiring schematics and layouts using AutoCAD.
• Write and develop PLC code, Allen Bradley Rockwell as a minimum.
• Design SCADA systems and HMIs.
• Hardware and software design engineering.
• Test, validate and commission new systems at UK and overseas sites.
• Review project specifications and develop functional design documentation.
• Attend technical and design meetings with clients and stakeholders.
