We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing manufacturer of special purpose automation machinery, supplying cutting-edge solutions into sectors including automotive and medical device. The Role
As a Controls Engineer, you'll take ownership of the electrical design and delivery of bespoke automated machinery, working alongside mechanical, software and project engineering teams throughout the full project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Designing complete machine control systems for bespoke automation projects.
- Producing electrical schematics, control panel layouts and bills of materials using EPLAN.
- Selecting electrical components and ensuring compliance with relevant machine safety standards.
- Supporting machine risk assessments and CE compliance.
- Supervising electrical builds and supporting technicians during assembly.
- Fault finding, testing and commissioning machinery both in-house and at customer sites.
- Supporting machine installation, customer acceptance testing and after-sales technical support.
- Contributing to the development and standardisation of future control systems.
- Working closely with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
About You
- A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic or Control Systems Engineering.
- Previous experience designing electrical control systems for special purpose machinery or industrial automation.
- Strong knowledge of EPLAN.
- Understanding of machine safety standards, CE compliance and electrical regulations.
- Experience selecting electrical components and producing manufacturing documentation.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines.
- A flexible approach and willingness to travel occasionally within the UK for commissioning and customer support.
Desirable Experience
- PLC programming (Siemens, Rockwell, Omron or B&R)
- Robot integration (SCARA, Delta or 6-axis robots)
- SISTEMA or machine risk assessments
- Industrial commissioning and customer site support
