Job summary

Neath Port Talbot Council is recruiting a Control Room Operator to monitor the trunk road and motorway network on a 24/7 basis, coordinating responses and information for safer, smoother journeys in South Wales.

The role offers a Total Reward Package starting from £32,985, including a starting salary from £28,608 rising to £32,046, plus a 15.3% employer pension contribution, generous holiday entitlement, and development opportunities. Hybrid working is available in some roles.

Responsibilities

• Monitor trunk road and motorway network and tunnels on a 24/7 basis to continually assess conditions and take action.
• Disseminate information through multiple channels to enable safer, more reliable journeys.
• Reduce incident-related congestion by responding to and managing incidents, hazards and collisions.
• Dispatch and log Welsh Government Traffic Officers actions; support events across Wales.
• Record, log and report all monitored or reported incidents on the trunk road and motorway network and tunnels.
• Provide professional support to Police and other agencies; represent the Welsh Government positively and professionally.

Responsibilities

To monitor the trunk road and motorway network and tunnels on a 24/7 basis in order to continually assess network conditions and take actions as necessary.

Dissemination of information through a variety of mediums at the operator’s disposal to enable safer, more reliable journeys on the network.

To reduce incident related congestion and the likelihood of secondary incidents by responding to, and managing incidents, hazards and collisions on the network (including within tunnels).

Dispatch and logging of Welsh Government Traffic Officers actions. Supporting events in Wales (Major sporting events, concerts etc) through disseminating information.

Recording, logging and reporting of all monitored or reported incidents on the trunk road and motorway network and tunnels.

To provide an effective and professional support role to the Police and other agencies To represent the Welsh Government by projecting a positive and professional image which reinforce the Welsh Governments’ values.

To promote and build good working relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure that the common goals of reducing incident related congestion is achieved Supporting Trunk Road Agent (TRA) responsibilities.

Reporting of defects or equipment failures as they become apparent and functional testing of repaired equipment.
