Job summary

Smart Solutions is seeking a dedicated Control Room Operator to monitor and control our waste treatment and renewable energy facility in Manvers. You will operate SCADA systems, respond to operational issues and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

The role targets continuous improvement, accurate data capture, and timely reporting while maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site discipline.

Qualifications

• Experience using SCADA in a process plant or similar operation.
• Experience delivering defined KPIs and driving continuous improvement.
• Experience implementing new data capture/reporting systems.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Knowledge of waste/waste processing operations.
• Excellent communication and people skills at all levels.
• Strong customer service and organisational skills.
• Computer literacy and proficiency with standard software.
• Willingness to undertake relevant internal/external training.
• Live within 20 miles of the site and hold a Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor SCADA/control systems to optimise throughput.
• Diagnose operational issues and coordinate with Engineering to prioritise fixes.
• Monitor performance data, maintain records and produce weekly Pareto reports.
• Carry out site fly treatments and review monitoring data per the Fly Management Plan.
• Maintain stock control and records of waste types (contract and non-contract).
• Respond to fires, alarms and fire-system faults as required.
• Support safe, compliant site operations and KPI achievement.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental legislation and permits.
• Assist continuous improvement and adopt new processes and procedures.
• Carry out light maintenance, cleaning and housekeeping duties.
• Act as Deputy to MBT Supervisor when required and progress toward SAP role.
• Undertake other duties as required by the Company.

Control Room Operator

Location: Manvers
Pay Rate: £15.16 per hour
Hours: 07:00–17:00, Monday to Friday

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Control Room Operator to join a busy Waste Treatment & Renewable Energy Facility based in Manvers.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing operation where you will play a key role in the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the facility.

As a Control Room Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring plant and equipment from the control room, responding to operational issues and ensuring the facility operates in line with all health & safety, environmental and operational standards.

This role would suit someone with experience in waste management, recycling, manufacturing, process operations or a similar industrial environment who is looking to develop their career within the waste and renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor MBT SCADA/control systems, optimising crane movements, waste placement and Refinement throughput.
• Diagnose operational issues and take appropriate corrective action, liaising with Engineering to prioritise critical breakdowns.
• Monitor crane performance, downtime and operating data, maintaining accurate records and producing weekly Pareto reports.
• Carry out site fly treatments and review monitoring data in accordance with the site Fly Management Plan.
• Maintain accurate stock control and records of contract and non-contract waste.
• Monitor and respond appropriately to fires, alarms and fire-system faults.
• Maintain safe, efficient and compliant site operations, working towards daily, weekly and monthly KPIs.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, Company policies, the site Environmental Permit and PFI contract requirements.
• Support continuous improvement and the implementation of new processes, standards and procedures.
• Carry out light equipment maintenance, housekeeping and cleaning duties.
• Deputise for the MBT Supervisor when required.
• Work towards becoming a Site Senior Approved Person (SAP), responsible for site isolations, permits and contractor control.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties required by the Company.

About You

Essential Requirements:

• Experience using SCADA systems, ideally within a process plant or similar operational environment.
• Experience working to defined KPIs and delivering continuous improvement.
• Experience implementing new processes and data capture/reporting systems.
• Good understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Knowledge of MRF/waste operations.
• Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels.
• Good customer service and organisational skills.
• Computer literate.
• Willingness to undertake relevant internal and external training.
• Live within 20 miles of the plant.
• Full UK driving licence.

Preferred:

• Mobile plant operating experience.
• Experience working shifts.
• Knowledge of waste-processing operations and the principles of valves, pumps, motors and associated instrumentation.
• Basic mechanical and plant maintenance skills.
• Logistics operations experience.
• Fire Marshal training.
• First Aid qualification.
