Job summary

Frey Consulting Group in Sandy, England is seeking an experienced Control Panel Builder to join a hands-on engineering team. You will build and wire bespoke control panels in a varied workshop, reading schematics and BOMs to ensure precise assembly.

The role involves fabricating components from metals and testing panel functions, with a clear path to leadership and ongoing development in controls, design or commissioning.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years’ experience in electrical panel building or a closely related electrical assembly environment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical layout drawings.
  • Experience with wire selection, crimping, ferrule termination and general panel wiring practices.

Responsibilities

  • Build, assemble and wire low-voltage control panels and enclosures across AC and DC control systems.
  • Interpret schematics, BOMs and layouts to ensure accurate panel construction.
  • Install components including relays, contactors, drives, HMIs and PLC equipment; terminate wiring.
  • Fabricate components from stainless steel, GRP, mild steel and galvanised materials; measure and mark precisely.
  • Conduct continuity tests and basic functional checks; maintain safety and workshop standards.

Job description

Are you an experienced Control Panel Builder looking for a hands-on opportunity where quality, precision and craftsmanship really matter? This is a fantastic chance to join an established engineering business working on bespoke industrial equipment, building and wiring a wide range of control panels in a varied workshop environment. With small-batch production and high levels of customisation, no two builds are quite the same.

Control Panel Builder – Sandy – £37k Plus overtime
Control Panel Builder’s Key Responsibilities:
  • Build, assemble and wire low-voltage control panels and associated electrical enclosures, working across AC and DC control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical layout drawings and bills of materials to ensure accurate panel construction.
  • Install and terminate electrical components including circuit protection, relays, contactors, inverter drives, soft starters, solenoid valves, HMIs and PLC equipment.
  • Fabricate and assemble panel components using hand and power tools, accurately measuring and marking out stainless steel, GRP, mild steel and galvanised materials.
  • Carry out continuity testing and basic functional checks, maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and workshop organisation while working closely with design and test teams.
Skills & Experience Required as a Control Panel Builder:
  • At least 4 years’ experience in electrical panel building or a closely related electrical assembly environment.
  • Strong ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical layout drawings.
  • Experienced in wire selection, crimping, ferrule termination, cable routing and general panel wiring practices.
  • Good understanding of both AC and DC control systems, with a careful and methodical approach to electrical assembly.
  • Formal electrical qualifications or a completed apprenticeship would be advantageous, as would experience with EPLAN, detailed BOMs, PLC/HMI systems or industrial automation.

  • Competitive salary based on experience, with overtime generally available at 1.5x the standard hourly rate.
