Lead the Delivery of Critical Rolling Stock Maintenance Contracts Across the UK
Arriva TrainCare is seeking an experienced Contracts Operational Delivery Manager to take ownership of the operational and commercial delivery of servicing contracts supporting the CrossCountry Voyager and Class 170 fleets across a network of third-party rail maintenance depots throughout the UK.
This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in the UK's rail industry, acting as the key interface between Arriva TrainCare, CrossCountry, Alstom and external depot operators to ensure fleet servicing activities are delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly and in line with contractual obligations.
You’ll be responsible for managing operational performance, service delivery, contract compliance, stakeholder relationships, audit activity and commercial matters across multiple maintenance locations, directly contributing to fleet reliability and customer satisfaction.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Depots, you'll be responsible for the operational delivery of contractual commitments relating to the servicing of the CrossCountry Voyager Fleet and Class 170 Fleet at non-Arriva TrainCare maintenance locations, including:
- RTS, Holbeck (Leeds) - Voyager Fleet Servicing
- GWR, Laira (Plymouth) - Voyager Fleet Servicing
You will become the primary operational contact for CrossCountry Fleet Management, coordinating closely with CrossCountry and Alstom maintenance planning teams to ensure servicing requirements are delivered across multiple locations and maintenance partners.
This is a highly visible role suited to candidates from rail operations, rolling stock maintenance, engineering contract management, depot management, fleet performance, service delivery or asset management backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Contract & Operational Delivery
- Lead the delivery of rolling stock servicing contracts across multiple third-party rail maintenance providers.
- Act as the primary point of contact for CrossCountry Fleet Management and key operational stakeholders.
- Coordinate with CrossCountry and Alstom maintenance planning teams, supporting both short-term and long-term fleet maintenance planning activity.
- Monitor service delivery performance and ensure contractual obligations are achieved across all servicing locations.
- Produce and present KPI reporting covering fleet performance, safety, quality, operational delivery and environmental performance.
Commercial & Stakeholder Management
- Manage contract reviews and drive issues through to successful resolution.
- Support the negotiation and management of supplier and maintenance partner arrangements in conjunction with Commercial and Procurement teams.
- Maintain contract governance through effective reporting, data analysis and performance management.
- Manage customer concerns, service improvement actions and operational escalations.
- Build strong relationships with CrossCountry, Alstom, depot operators and internal Arriva TrainCare teams.
Safety, Compliance & Assurance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Health & Safety legislation, Network Rail standards, industry regulations and Arriva TrainCare procedures.
- Lead and support accident and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions and lessons learned.
- Conduct scheduled and unannounced depot audits, compliance inspections and safety assurance visits.
- Verify RAMS and oversee adherence to agreed safe systems of work within safety-critical environments.
- Carry out site audits during both day and night operations, including overnight travel as required.
Asset & Fleet Management
- Ensure customer tooling, equipment and fleet servicing assets are effectively managed and maintained.
- Conduct stock and materials audits across servicing locations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fleet performance, depot operations and service delivery standards.
- Promote best practice sharing across multiple maintenance locations and operational teams.
About You
- HND qualification (or equivalent) in a technical, engineering or management discipline.
- Significant experience in contract management, commercial management, service delivery or operational leadership roles.
- Experience managing engineering, fleet maintenance or asset management contracts.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation capability.
- Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Rail industry, rolling stock or depot operations experience.
- Audit qualification or practical auditing experience.
- Knowledge of fleet maintenance planning and service delivery within a rail environment.
- Experience working within safety-critical engineering operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, SAP and Power BI.
