Job description

Contracts Manager - Construction & Refurbishment

Location: Shropshire

Salary: £65,000-£75,000+ DOE

Are you an experienced Contracts Manager looking for a role where you can genuinely make an impact?

We are working with a successful, established and growing privately owned construction business that is looking to appoint an experienced Contracts Manager to join its senior project delivery team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious construction professional who enjoys taking ownership, leading people and delivering high-quality projects, while also having the opportunity to contribute to the wider direction and continued growth of the business.

You’ll have responsibility for a portfolio of new build and refurbishment projects, working across a variety of sectors and environments. You’ll be trusted to take ownership from pre-construction through to completion, with the support of an experienced Senior Management and Commercial Team.

What Makes This Opportunity Different?

This is more than simply managing contracts.

You’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, develop your team, influence project performance and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. You’ll also have direct exposure to the senior leadership team, giving you the opportunity to contribute ideas, improve processes and play a genuine part in shaping the future of the business.

If you're someone who takes pride in delivering projects safely, commercially and to a high standard, this could be an excellent next step in your career.

About the Role

As Contracts Manager, you will take overall responsibility for allocated projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Taking projects from pre-construction through to successful completion and handover.
  • Leading and developing Site Managers and wider project teams.
  • Managing programmes, procurement, resources, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Working closely with the Commercial Team to manage budgets, costs, variations, risk and contractual matters.
  • Building strong, long-term relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders.
  • Maintaining high standards across health & safety, quality and environmental performance.
  • Driving a right-first-time approach and identifying opportunities for value engineering and improved project delivery.
  • Providing clear reporting and recommendations to the Construction Director, Managing Director and Senior Management Team.
  • Contributing your experience, ideas and leadership to the continued growth of the business.
About You

You’ll be an experienced construction professional with a strong background in building construction and a proven track record of successfully delivering projects.

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have worked as a Contracts Manager, Senior Contracts Manager or in a similar senior construction management position.

Desired Experience
  • New build and refurbishment projects, ideally including complex schemes within education, healthcare or other live environments.
  • JCT and NEC contracts, alongside strong commercial and cost-control knowledge.
  • Construction programming, procurement and resource planning.
  • Managing subcontractors, suppliers and project teams, including leading and mentoring Site Managers.
  • Health, safety, quality and environmental standards.

You’ll need to be a confident communicator and natural leader, with the ability to build credibility quickly with clients, colleagues and supply chain partners.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes ownership, makes decisions, solves problems and cares about delivering a quality end product.

IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) and a full UK driving licence are required.

What's in It for You?

In return, you’ll receive a competitive package including:

  • £65,000-£75,000+ salary, depending on experience and level of responsibility.
  • Company car allowance and potential performance-related bonus.
  • 25 days' annual leave, increasing with length of service.
  • Company pension scheme and private healthcare.
  • Ongoing training and development.
  • Permanent position with a 16 November 2026 start date.
  • The opportunity to join an established and successful construction business with ambitious plans for continued growth.
  • Genuine opportunity to influence project delivery and contribute to the wider success of the business.
