Job summary

Interaction Recruitment is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to lead the delivery of allocated construction projects, from pre-construction through to handover, while ensuring safety, programme, quality and commercial targets are met.

You will coordinate clients, subcontractors and site teams, manage programmes, cost control, RAMS and documentation, build strong client relationships and drive continuous improvement in processes and profitability.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Contracts Manager or similar project management role.
  • Experience managing projects within the construction, fit-out or shopfitting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of project programming and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee allocated projects from commencement through to completion.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are achieved.
  • Coordinate direct labour, subcontractors, suppliers, materials and equipment to ensure projects remain on programme.
  • Attend pre-start, progress and completion meetings and maintain clear communication with clients and project teams.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and their representatives.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify and resolve issues that may affect programme, quality, safety or cost.
  • Obtain and manage competitive subcontractor quotations and oversee subcontractor performance.
  • Monitor and control project costs, variations and additional works.
  • Maintain accurate records and report commercial and programme issues to the Senior Contracts Manager.
  • Take responsibility for protecting and improving project profit margins through effective resource and cost management.
  • Ensure all projects are managed in accordance with the client's health and safety policies and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure appropriate Health & Safety Plans, RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, Fire Plans, Traffic Management Plans and other required documentation are in place and maintained.
  • Conduct site audits and ensure any actions are followed through to completion.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality and achieving a zero-defect handover.
  • Support and motivate site-based teams and work collaboratively with colleagues across the business.
  • Identify opportunities for improving processes, productivity and methods of working.
  • Identify and manage risks throughout the pre-construction, planning and construction phases.
  • Provide support to other Contracts Managers and manage projects in the absence of a Site Manager when required.

Reporting to: Senior Contracts Manager

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Contracts Manager to join our team and take responsibility for the successful delivery of allocated projects.

This is a hands-on role, managing projects from pre-construction and planning through to completion and handover. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, to a high standard of quality and within agreed commercial targets.

Working closely with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams, you will play a key role in ensuring projects run efficiently while maintaining strong relationships and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware and confident in managing multiple aspects of a project.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Contracts Manager or similar project management role.

  • Experience managing projects within the construction, fit-out or shopfitting environment.

  • Strong knowledge of project programming and delivery.

  • Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.

  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of cost and margin control.

  • A strong understanding of health and safety requirements and construction legislation.

  • Experience reviewing RAMS and managing project documentation.

  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.

  • The ability to identify problems early and take a proactive approach to finding solutions.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.

  • The ability to work independently while also supporting and collaborating with the wider team.

  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and workmanship.
