Job summary

Barnfield Construction Limited requires a Contracts Manager to oversee multiple projects (£2m–£20m) across site and office environments. You will liaise with project and site teams, plan large-scale works and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.

The ideal candidate has experience in new build/refurbishment projects, strong leadership, and robust problem-solving skills. Northwest travel and commutable distance to Nelson are expected.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on new build/refurbishment projects.
  • Thorough understanding of construction methods and techniques.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute contracts to delivery schedule.
  • Establish and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Manage project teams.
  • Ensure safe delivery of projects on time and to standard.
  • Communicate contract information to stakeholders.
  • Office based with regular site visits.
  • Produce Gantt Chart programmes for clients including detailed finishing programmes.
  • Oversee commercial settlements with clients and subcontractors.
  • Produce and agree Procurement schedules.
  • Interrogate designs from consultants and subcontractors.

Job description

The Contracts Manager must have a varied knowledge and skill set across the Construction Industry and must be able to demonstrate the ability to handle several projects at any given time with values between £2m - £20m. This role will be both site and office based, working within the Senior Contracts Management team, liaising with Project and Site management staff, planning large scale projects and overseeing the construction teams on site, ensuring all aspects of the projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.

Therefore this role would ideally suit a committed, highly motivated, ambitious, individual with relevant experience within the field.

Required Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working for a comparable business in new build/refurbishment projects. Refurbishment experience useful but not essential.
  • Ability to demonstrate a detailed understanding of construction methods and techniques
  • Ability to challenge / interrogate designs in order to promote the most effective, buildable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet project objectives within designated constraints
  • Robust skills in safe delivery of projects
  • Happy to travel around the Northwest
  • Live within a commutable distance to Nelson
  • Driving license
  • Enthusiastic, outgoing personality
  • An understanding of legal documentation
  • Maths and IT knowledge
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • A hands-on leader able to get into the detail
  • Proven strategic skills to assess priorities, develop and implement effective long-term plans
  • Able to develop business relationships in the customer base at the highest level; and can manage growth

Annual leave entitlement - 23 days (plus 8 bank holidays) per year increasing by 1 day for every five years of service. 7 days (plus 3 bank holidays) to be saved for Christmas closure (determined annually each January).
