Job Description:

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor substantial experience of the law and practice in this area. This is an ideal role for those interested in developing and enhancing their existing skills whilst undertaking quality and varied work.

In this role you will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers to provide quality proactive legal advice on issues including, but not limited to, Public Contract Regulations matters, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC's and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will have conduct of a full, varied and demanding caseload.

Senior Lawyers play an active role in the management of the team, and you will be expected to deputise for the Principal Solicitor alongside actively contributing to the future delivery of first-class legal services.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • You are a Solicitor, barrister or Fellow of CILEX, eligible to practise in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate issued by the relevant regulatory authority
  • Negotiating and drafting experience such as construction contracts, service agreements, facilities management services
  • Providing solutions-focused and enabling advice on a range of matters and an ability to learn quickly about subjects in which you may not have had prior experience
  • Effective team working, including managing competing priorities to achieve clienUstatutory deadlines
  • Leading and contributing at client and project meetings, providing exemplary client care and organisational skills
  • Advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council

The role is hybrid however remote will be considered. Occasional office attendance may be required by agreement and the candidate will be expected to collect their laptop from our Reigate office on their first day.

This role will be required to assist in the management of a group of lawyers in identified work areas according to business need, providing leadership, supervision, and direction and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers and committees.

The role will contribute to the wider management of Legal Services and lead by example in modelling and embedding the council's values and behaviours across the service.

In this role you will manage a full, varied and demanding caseload and deliver innovative solutions with minimal supervision.

Within the team the role holder will support and deliver both personally and through assisting in the management of the team and its resources, the council's ambition to reduce reliance on external legal support. As part of the role, you will be required to undertake and/or manage advocacy where required.

This role will support the Monitoring Officer in respect of their duty to advise the County Council of any illegality or procedural default to enable the matter to be investigated.

The role will include contributing to the training of staff within the Council to ensure that they are kept up to date with the law and emerging issues.
