Octavius Infrastructure's rail business is rapidly evolving with key contract awards across the country. We are delivering new infrastructure including stations, Access for All schemes, and renewals across Wales & Western regions. To enhance our engineering capability, we are recruiting a Contractors Engineering Manager. Our hybrid working policy allows you to work from home, site, and offices in Swindon and Bristol.

The Purpose Of The Role
  • Support the Engineering & Assurance Lead to meet Network Rail Engineering Standard 02009 requirements.
  • Implement Framework Design and Engineering Management Plans, providing technical assurance to projects.
  • Manage and develop a team of engineers, ensuring competent resources are employed on all projects.
  • Provide technical support and advice across all project phases, and manage temporary works processes.
  • Assist in audit activities for business and client assurance, ensuring the delivery of engineering/technical support.
Your Responsibilities
  • Support the Engineering & Assurance Lead in project activities and maintain Engineering Management Plans.
  • Ensure competent engineering resources and manage delivery of in-house and subcontract designs.
  • Assist project teams with risk management, commercial issues, and compliance processes.
  • Review and advise on design briefs, investigations, and temporary works.
  • Mentor engineers and promote knowledge sharing, focusing on design and engineering.

About You
  • Proven experience in delivering Rail infrastructure projects, ideally progressing via a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE).
  • Background in buildings, construction, design, or related fields, with a desire to support others.
  • Deep knowledge of construction techniques across civils, building, electrical fit-out, drainage, roofing, glazing, surfacing, and temporary works.
  • Experience with temporary works design and/or implementation.
  • Experience using ProjectWise for design management.
  • Practical knowledge of procedures related to Highways, London Underground, and related disciplines.
  • Understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and their application.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • SMSTS certification (preferred).
  • Training and experience in CDM Regulations.
  • Experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator.
  • Level 1 Audit qualifications (preferred).
  • LEAN methodology advocate (preferred).
  • Behavioral safety training such as StopThink, Zero Harm, ELITE, or similar (preferred).
