Job Description:

Octavius Infrastructure rail business is rapidly evolving with key contract awards across the country. We'll be delivering new infrastructure including new stations, Access for All schemes, and domestic renewals across the Wales & Western region. As a result, we are looking to enhance our engineering capability by recruiting a Contractors Engineering Manager. Using our hybrid working policy, you'll work from home, site, and an office in Swindon and Bristol.

We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

The purpose of the role is:

  • Support the Engineering & Assurance Lead to meet Network Rail Engineering Standard 02009 requirements.
  • Implement Framework Design and Engineering Management Plans, and provide technical assurance to projects.
  • Manage and develop a team of engineers, ensuring competent resources are employed on all projects.
  • Provide technical support and advice across all project phases, and manage temporary works processes.
  • Assist in audit activities for business and client assurance, and ensure the delivery of engineering/technical support.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Engineering & Assurance Lead in project activities and maintaining Engineering Management Plans.
  • Ensuring competent engineering resources and managing the delivery of in-house and subcontract designs.
  • Assisting project teams with risk management, commercial issues, and compliance processes.
  • Reviewing and advising on design briefs, structural investigations, and temporary works.
  • Mentoring engineers and encouraging knowledge sharing across the business, focusing on design and engineering.

About you:

  • Proven experience in delivering Rail infrastructure projects, with progression via a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE).
  • Background in buildings/construction and/or design, seeking to leverage your knowledge to support others.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction techniques and processes across building, civils, and electrical works, including drainage, roofing, glazing, surfacing, electrical re-wire & re-light, temporary works, with an understanding of highway & railway disciplines.
  • Specific knowledge of temporary works design and implementation.
  • Experience with ProjectWise for design management.
  • Practical knowledge of procedures related to Highways, London Underground, and similar projects, including temporary and permanent works.
  • Understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and their application.
  • A focus on the safe delivery of projects with an emphasis on Design & Engineering.

Your qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical engineering; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • SMSTS certification (preferred).
  • Training and experience in CDM Regulations implementation.
  • Experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator or similar role.
  • LEAN methodology advocate (preferred).
  • Behavioral safety training such as StopThink, Zero Harm, ELITE, or similar (preferred).
