Job description
Overview

Severn Trent is embarking on its largest capital investment programme yet. We are looking for a Contract Performance & Risk Manager to lead and enhance the performance of our land and planning supply chain. This role for AMP8 is crucial for the delivery of consultancy services, including land access, land acquisition, planning applications, environmental impact assessments, and related land and planning technical services.

In this new role, you will take ownership of supply chain performance and appointments, ensuring that key metrics and service delivery standards are met. You will monitor and report on KPIs, identify trends, and drive corrective actions as needed. You will also play a key role in risk management, proactively addressing emerging issues and developing contingency plans. You will manage the allocation of work to suppliers, ensure resources are available, and appoint the most appropriate supplier based on a decision matrix. You will lead on bids where appointments are allocated by submissions rather than direct awards, ensuring a fair and competitive process. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders is central to driving improvements and efficiencies.

You will have the opportunity to shape how things function and operate, potentially introducing new technologies or methodologies to enhance supply chain visibility and performance.

What you’ll bring to the role

We are looking for someone with a strong background in contract and supply chain management, preferably in technical or professional services. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing a business service request system to triage requests and allocate them to the supply chain. You should be comfortable with data management and digital reporting to drive performance improvements. A track record of identifying risks, implementing mitigation measures, and challenging existing processes is desirable. Confidence and proactivity are essential, as you will engage in difficult conversations and drive change while holding the supply chain to account.

The successful candidate will ideally possess some or all of the following skills:

  • Analytical Skills: Monitor and report on KPIs, identify trends, and drive data-led decisions.
  • Proactive Risk Management: Address emerging issues and develop contingency plans.
  • Decision-Making: Manage allocation of work to suppliers using a decision matrix.
  • Bid Management: Lead bids and ensure a fair and competitive process.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Influencing Skills: Influence improvements and drive efficiencies.
  • Strategic Thinking: Shape how things function, introducing new technologies or methodologies.
  • Communication Skills: Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Adaptability: Work at both strategic and reactive levels, solving problems and keeping projects on track.
  • Innovation: Enhance efficiency and deliver sustainable results.
Desirable attributes

Technical skills with Microsoft Office 365 (including SharePoint, Microsoft Lists, Forms, Power BI, Power Automate); experience in the water/utility sector with land access and land acquisition infrastructure projects; knowledge of planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain, and the Water Industry Act 1991 powers.

We offer a range of benefits and a commitment to training and development to help you reach your potential, plus the chance to contribute to looking after the environment and communities where we live.

  • Salary range: £53,000 - £60,000
