Job summary

Staffline is recruiting a Contract Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to provide hands-on maintenance within a busy FMCG production and packaging environment in North Yorkshire. The role focuses on mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis, with emphasis on conveyors, motors, drives, PLCs, and a quick turnaround under high-volume demand.

You will maintain uptime, support intermittent plant improvements, and work on preventative maintenance to protect food safety and process reliability.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering.
• Previous experience in a production/manufacturing environment with conveyors, motors and drives.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work independently on maintenance or modification projects.
• Proactive problem-solving approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Computer-literate with good maintenance reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance of mechanical fittings to support production activities.
• Perform planned and reactive maintenance across production machinery including conveyors, motors and drives.
• Support plant and automated systems including pneumatics, hydraulics and handling equipment.
• Attend to breakdowns promptly delivering safe, effective mechanical repairs.
• Assist in modification and improvement projects on process lines and production equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives ensuring reliability and performance targets.
