Job summary

Carnell is seeking a Contract Manager to lead the delivery of highways, drainage and civil engineering projects across Yorkshire and the North East. You will manage Project Managers and operational teams, ensuring safety, compliance and profitable performance.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will build strong client relationships, drive programme delivery and commercial outcomes, and support tendering initiatives while developing high-performing teams.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering highways, drainage or civil engineering projects.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Understanding Health & Safety legislation and operational compliance.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.

We're looking for an experienced Contract Manager to lead the successful delivery of drainage, highways and civil engineering projects across Yorkshire and the North East. The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll take full responsibility for the safe, compliant and profitable delivery of projects while leading Project Managers, Construction Managers and operational teams. You'll work closely with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the delivery of highways, drainage and civil engineering contracts
• Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships
• Managing project performance, programme delivery and commercial outcomes
• Developing and leading high-performing operational teams
• Supporting tendering activities and identifying opportunities for business growth
• Driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across your contracts

About You

You'll be a proven Contract Manager, Senior Project Manager or Operations Manager with significant experience within highways, drainage or civil engineering environments.

You'll ideally have:

• Extensive experience delivering National Highways or local authority infrastructure projects
• Strong commercial and contract management experience
• Excellent leadership and people management skills
• A thorough understanding of Health & Safety legislation and operational compliance
• Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams
• HNC/HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• SMSTS and CSCS Manager Card
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
