Contracts Manager - Highways / Civil Engineering

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Contracts Manager to join a leading highways and civil engineering contractor, working from their Pontefract office and delivering projects through a major SDF framework.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple highways and civil engineering schemes, managing projects from pre-construction through to completion while ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme, to specification and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for the successful delivery of allocated projects.
• Manage multiple highways/civils projects concurrently.
• Lead and manage Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and Supervisors.
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers and site resources.
• Monitor programme, progress, costs, risks and commercial performance.
• Work closely with the commercial team to manage budgets, forecasts and project performance.
• Manage NEC contracts, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Support pre-construction, planning and mobilisation activities.
• Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
• Attend client and project meetings and provide regular progress reporting.
• Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant highways standards and contractual requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Project Manager within highways or civil engineering.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects / schemes.
• Strong experience delivering highways, infrastructure or other relevant civil engineering projects.
• Experience working under NEC contracts, ideally NEC4.
• Strong commercial, programme and risk-management experience.
• Experience managing project teams, subcontractors and supply chains.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in a live highway / infrastructure environment would be highly advantageous.
• 5+ years' relevant experience in a senior project delivery position.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline - desirable.
• SMSTS - essential.
• CSCS - essential.
• NEC4 training/qualification - desirable.
• Temporary Works / relevant highways qualifications - desirable.
