Job summary

The Norths Group is seeking an experienced Commercial Civils Contracts Manager to oversee multiple civil engineering projects from award to final account, ensuring commercial and operational delivery. You will manage performance, contractual compliance, client relationships, and lead site teams to deliver safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities include managing costs, variations, and final accounts, reviewing NEC/JCT contracts, and supporting tenders and client meetings.

Qualifications

  • Proven Contracts Manager experience in civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Strong commercial awareness with budgets and contract performance.
  • Knowledge of NEC (JCT desirable).
  • Experience delivering highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee project delivery from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget.
  • Manage client relationships and act as the primary contact.

  • Prepare project reports, forecasts, and commercial updates.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Civils Contracts Manager to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused construction professional to oversee multiple civil engineering projects from contract award through to final account, ensuring successful commercial and operational delivery.

Working across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, you will be responsible for managing project performance, contractual compliance, client relationships, and commercial outcomes while leading site teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple civil engineering contracts simultaneously.
  • Oversee project delivery from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget.
  • Manage client relationships and act as the primary point of contact.
  • Monitor project costs, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Review and administer NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Lead project teams including Site Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare project reports, forecasts, and commercial updates.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Support business development by assisting with tenders and client meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and health & safety legislation.
Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets and contract performance.
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts (JCT knowledge also desirable).
  • Experience delivering highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, groundworks, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • SMSTS.
  • CSCS Black Card (or appropriate management card).
  • First Aid at Work (desirable).
