Job summary

Redline Group is seeking a Contract Firmware Engineer in Cambridge to support an innovative safety-focused engineering business. The role is hands-on, focusing on firmware development, hardware bring-up, peripheral integration and platform development for a next-generation product entering beta.

The contract runs for an initial 5 months, on-site in Dry Drayton, Cambridge, with potential extension. Early October start date; work alongside senior engineers on a dedicated development programme.

Qualifications

• Hands-on embedded C firmware development experience on MCUs.
• Experience with STM32 BSP development and bring-up.
• Familiarity with serial protocols SPI, I2C, UART and CAN.

Responsibilities

• Develop firmware for a next-generation product in beta.
• Hardware bring-up and peripheral integration.
• Collaborate with Senior Engineers on the development programme.

Job description

The Redline Group has an urgent requirement for a Contract Firmware Engineer to support an innovative engineering business based in Cambridge. The company develops advanced safety technologies and is seeking an experienced contractor to support the development of a next-generation product currently entering the beta phase of development.

This is a hands‑on role focused on firmware development, hardware bring‑up, peripheral integration and platform development, working closely with Senior Engineers on a dedicated new product development programme.

Key Skills Required – Contract Firmware Engineer

• Strong Embedded C Firmware Development experience
• STM32 Bare-Metal Debug & Bring Up
• Microcontroller Development (STM32, NXP, Renesas, Microchip or similar)
• Board Support Package (BSP) Development
• Serial Communications including SPI, I2C, UART and CAN

This role is expected to start early October and last 5 months initially with potential for extension. The successful contractor will be required on‑site in Dry Drayton, Cambridge, ideally 5 days per week.

This role has an indicative OUTSIDE IR35 determination therefore we can accept candidates who would like to operate through their own PSC.
