Job summary

Mace is leading the engineering design management for the Hinkley Point C project, overseeing the construction of an auxiliary boiler building and coordinating multi-disciplinary design activities across Contract Partners. The role focuses on safety, UK regulatory alignment and timely delivery of design outputs.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team at a nationally significant programme, contributing to risk reduction, stakeholder engagement and efficient project execution.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Civil/Structural/Architect/Process/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in design management and coordination on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in nuclear industry is appreciated; awareness of nuclear safety constraints.
  • Solid knowledge of building design and construction; CDM 2015 awareness.
  • Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented leadership.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to delegate.
  • Independent, proactive and good communication skills.
  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • English language proficiency; French language skills a plus.
  • Proficient IT skills and engineering software experience.
  • Experience with boilers/steam generation or thermal processes.
  • Chartered status is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical management of the contracts and be the primary contact for civil and MEH program PMs.
  • Ensure contract deliverables align with technical specifications and safety/UK requirements.
  • Coordinate design activities across Contract Partners and monitor design outputs.
  • Manage surveillance of detailed design work and configuration control.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders and manage multi-programme risks.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing the design of a building that houses an auxiliary boiler system, which provides steam to the main turbines of two reactors at HPC. This is supported by a multi-disciplinary Team within NNB.

You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Providing technical management of the Contract(s), including being the primary point of contact for the civil programme Project Managers and Mechanical, Electrical and Heating and Ventilation (MEH) programme Project Managers.
  • Ensuring consistency of Contract Partner(s) deliverables with the contract technical specifications.
  • Ensuring Safety and UK Context requirements are considered in design activities, noting that the Ancillary Works Team enact the Principal Designer role for this contract on behalf of NNB.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the overall engineering delivery strategies; and proposing changes where necessary.
  • Ensuring effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate engineering design activities performed by the different Contract Partners in parallel work streams.
  • Providing technical support and information to the Contract Partner(s) where required.
  • Managing the surveillance of the Contract Partner(s) detailed design work, in conjunction with NNB’s technical management, in accordance with project processes.
  • Ensuring effective configuration control processes are in place and are implemented, both with the Contract Partners and within NNB.
  • Managing the resolution of transverse (multi-programme) engineering issues or risks.
  • Ensuring that the Contract Partner(s) schedules and milestones are consistent with global schedule.
  • Ensuring that the Contract Partner(s) List of Deliverables are consistent with the agreed schedule(s) and to ensure the Contract Partner is delivering design output in accordance with the agreed schedule and the LoD.
  • Agreeing and accepting the Contract Partner Design schedule on behalf of NNB.
  • Providing and coordinating engineering design gateway requirements and reviews.
  • Coordinating constructability reviews prior to the Readiness Review and formal transfer for construction/erection/installation.
  • Managing the coordinate and consolidate comments provided by all the Stakeholders during the deliverables review process.
  • Facilitating optimisation of the design via modifications, trends and changes from feedback across the project.
  • Managing discussions with the Contract Partner, providing support to the NNB Project Manager with early warning and compensation events, reviewing project change requests and provide support to the commercial lead for cost and schedule impact assessment and negotiation.
  • Ensuring perceived risks and trends are recorded and appropriately managed.
  • Ensuring effective tracking, mitigation and closure of open points.
You’ll Need To Have
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Civil/Structural/Architect/Process/Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in design management and coordination on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in nuclear industry appreciated. Awareness of the nuclear safety related constraints.
  • Solid Technical knowledge of building design and construction; particularly key UK legislation (e.g. CDM 2015)
  • Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented, leadership.
  • Acknowledged organisational skills including the ability to delegate.
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Languages - English (priority)
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in engineering software packages.
  • Engineering experience with boilers, steam generation facilities, or thermal process.
  • Chartership.
  • French language skills.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry.
