Job summary

STERIS in the United Kingdom is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer II to lead lean initiatives across production and the supply chain, driving improvements in safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity.

You will train staff on Daily Management System, 5S, visual management, standard work, Kanban and value stream mapping, and you will facilitate Kaizen events, analyze data, and support cost-benefit analyses for capital projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience in a similar related industry/work environment (manufacturing/operations, service, distribution, etc.).
  • Demonstrated passion for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated effective skills: organization, logic/reasoning, interpersonal, communication (oral and written), accuracy and detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and methodologies to improve safety, quality, delivery, inventory & productivity and operational performance.
  • Train and coach employees on Lean tools and systems including Daily Management System, 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, A3 Problem Solving, and Waste and Loss Reduction.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities, develop solutions, and drive implementation of process enhancements.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events, workshops, and problem‑solving activities to identify waste, eliminate process inefficiencies, and sustain improvements.
  • Monitors and oversees Kaizen event follow up activities.
  • Analyze operational data, measure process performance, and track key metrics to support decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support capital expenditure and operational improvement projects through data collection & cost-benefit analysis.
  • Maintaining expertise in Lean methodologies and continuous improvement best practices while promoting a culture of operational excellence across the organization.
  • Perform other continuous improvement and operational excellence duties as assigned to support business objectives.

The Continuous Improvement Engineer II supports the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, inventory, productivity, and overall operational performance. This role partners with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities, analyse operational data, and implement practical solutions using Lean manufacturing methods. The position facilitates Kaizen events, workshops, and problem-solving activities to reduce waste, improve processes, and sustain results. It also trains and coaches employees on Lean tools and systems, including the Daily Management System, 5S, visual management, standard work, Kanban, value stream mapping, and structured problem solving.

Duties
  • Lead and execute continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and methodologies to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory & Productivity and operational performance.
  • Train and coach employees on Lean tools and systems including Daily Management System, 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, A3 Problem Solving, and Waste and Loss Reduction.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, such as Production, Purchasing, Planning, Quality, PMO & R&D to identify improvement opportunities, develop solutions, and drive implementation of process enhancements.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events, workshops, and problem‑solving activities to identify waste, eliminate process inefficiencies, and sustain improvements.
  • Monitors and oversees Kaizen event follow up activities.
  • Analyze operational data, measure process performance, and track key metrics to support decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support capital expenditure and operational improvement projects through data collection & cost-benefit analysis.
  • Maintaining expertise in Lean methodologies and continuous improvement best practices while promoting a culture of operational excellence across the organization.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience required. (could include internships/co-ops or significant project work related to CI)
  • Experience in a similar related industry/work environment (e.g. manufacturing/operations, service, distribution, etc.)
  • Demonstrated passion for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated effective skills: organization, logic/reasoning, interpersonal, communication (oral and written), accuracy and detail.
