An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join the Dorset Bladder & Bowel Continence Service.
The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for continence care and an interest in assisting patients with bladder and bowel issues, supporting them in managing their incontinence. The role covers Sherborne, Gillingham, Blandford, and surrounding localities, working closely with local district nurse teams and other community health professionals.
Responsibilities include working mainly under supervision of clinicians, with some autonomous work. The workload predominantly involves remote assessments via telephone consultations and visiting patients at home when necessary. A full driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are required.
In return, we offer opportunities to develop clinical skills in continence care, gain experience within a supportive team, and access regular supervision and appraisals. Support and training will be provided to help you reach required competency levels. Further training opportunities may be available through the Trust’s Training Department.
Please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must hold valid right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
Key duties include conducting continence assessments for housebound patients via telephone, in their homes, or care facilities, providing lifestyle advice, and determining the need for containment products and devices. Consultations may involve patients, family members, and other care providers with consent.
Opportunities to carry out bladder scans and sheath fittings will be provided with full training.
This position requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover. Applicants subscribed to the DBS update service can present a valid certificate instead of a new check.
