Description
The Content Development Editor facilitates the editorial delivery and onboarding of an assigned list of books, enabling frictionless delivery of manuscripts to Production, liaising with external editors and authors, as well as Emerald’s commissioning editors and other colleagues.
Day to day you will oversee the delivery of a portfolio of books in line with Emerald’s standards of timely delivery, quality, customer service, and cost control. You will work with and provide support to supplier Book Project Editors (BPEs), including system support, on-time processing of books, problem solving, and effective communication to book authors and editors.
This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and communication.
Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.

Day to day we’ll trust you to:
- Manage a portfolio of allocated book titles in the fields of business and management; acting as a first point of contact point for author and editor queries, and providing expert advice on permissions and copyright queries
- Monitor and support the work of supplier Book Project Editors to ensure quality control and on time delivery of projects
- Oversee the receipt of new manuscripts and entry of new book titles into Editorial systems, ensuring content can flow seamlessly from Editorial through to Production
- Champion best practice and consistency of process with vendors and Emerald colleagues
- Work directly with cover designers to brief new cover designs and ensure timely delivery of cover proofs.
- Actively participate in or leads projects that support continuous improvement of processes, Emerald’s book programme and Emerald's mission
- Liaise with our Research Integrity and Legal departments when required.
You’ll need to have:
- Advanced organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work to pressured deadlines

- Conflict resolution, ability to resolve editorial conflicts and disputes
- Relationship development and management
- Full competency with MS office applications
- Ability to learn and adapt to internal systems and processes
- Relevant publishing or industry experience preferred
