Job summary

The Oyster Partnership is partnering with a local authority in Staffordshire to recruit an Environmental Protection Officer on a flexible part-time contract. The role focuses on contaminated land, planning consultations and statutory nuisance, with broader environmental protection duties.

The successful candidate will review planning applications, provide technical advice and manage a caseload while working predominantly remotely with occasional office attendance.

Qualifications

• Previous Environmental Protection experience, ideally within a local authority.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience of contaminated land.
• Confidence handling planning consultations and responses.
• Experience investigating statutory nuisance.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently and hit the ground running.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and responding to planning applications and consultations.
• Providing technical advice relating to contaminated land.
• Assessing land contamination reports, investigations and remediation proposals.
• Investigating statutory nuisance and wider environmental protection complaints.
• Providing professional advice to colleagues, developers and other stakeholders.
• Supporting the wider Environmental Protection team where required.
