Job description

Job Title: Town Planner

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are a team of over 36,000 people across more than 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the collective power of many curious minds, we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver greater impact together.

About the Role

Our Planning team is expanding, and we are seeking a Town Planner to support a range of planning duties, focusing on policy, strategy, infrastructure consents, and regeneration planning.

As part of our Environmental team, you'll contribute to enhancing quality of life. Your expertise in environmental management, technical skills, or sustainability could involve work related to protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

Our Commitment and Projects

We aim to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. We face challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and biodiversity loss, with increasing frequency of large-scale events like floods and wildfires.

Our team supports clients with complex projects including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, energy developments, residential and commercial schemes, socio-economic, health, and community planning, along with research into the planning process. Our clients include Highways England, Transport for London, Transport for Wales, HS2, National Grid, Homes England, the Environment Agency, Welsh Government, and the Canals & Rivers Trust, among others.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide planning advice to clients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on masterplans, planning applications, regeneration strategies, policies, and impact assessments.
  • Develop a deep understanding of client challenges and apply your technical expertise to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Support client relationships and contribute to work-winning activities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in town planning, including policy, strategy, planning applications, consents, and regeneration planning.
  • Knowledge of socio-economic and health impact assessments for development and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with planning applications, particularly infrastructure consents.
  • Proficiency in supporting masterplans, impact assessments, and working within matrix and dispersed teams.
  • A relevant degree, a Master's in an accredited planning course, and progress towards chartership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI).
  • Understanding of stakeholder engagement, including engaging with hard-to-reach groups and virtual public consultations.
Location and Flexibility

This role can be based in Birmingham, Leeds, London, or Manchester, with opportunities for remote work.
