Job description

Job Description: Town Planner at Arcadis

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are a team of over 36,000 people in more than 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver greater impact.

Our Planning team is expanding, and we are seeking a Town Planner to support our growing team with a range of planning duties, focusing on policy, strategy, infrastructure consents, and regeneration planning.

As part of our Environmental team, you'll help enhance quality of life. Your expertise in environmental management, technical skills, or sustainability could involve work related to protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

We aim to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. In the face of climate change, rapid urbanization, and biodiversity loss, we are committed to safeguarding natural resources and water for the future.

Our team supports clients with some of the UK's most complex projects, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, energy and infrastructure developments, residential and commercial schemes, socio-economic, health, and community planning, as well as research into the planning process. Our clients include Highways England, Transport for London, Transport for Wales, HS2, National Grid, Homes England, the Environment Agency, Welsh Government, and the Canals & Rivers Trust, among others.

At Arcadis, variety is standard. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects across our business. As a Town Planner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing planning advice to clients and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams on masterplans, planning applications, regeneration strategies, policies, and socio-economic and health impact assessments.
  • Partnering with clients to understand their complex challenges and applying your skills to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Supporting client relationships and business development efforts.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in town planning, including policy, strategy, planning applications, consents, and regeneration planning.
  • Knowledge of socio-economic and health impact assessments for development and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with planning applications, especially infrastructure consents.
  • Ability to support masterplans, impact assessments, and work within matrix and dispersed teams.
  • A relevant degree and a Master's in an accredited planning course, working towards MRTPI chartership.
  • Understanding stakeholder engagement, including working with hard-to-reach groups and virtual public engagement.

This role can be based in Birmingham, Leeds, London, or Manchester, with opportunities for remote work.
