Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Consultant Site Engineer for a major civil project in South Lincolnshire. The freelance assignment covers replacing about 150 metres of an open channel, including sheet piling and reinforced concrete works, with start in September 2026 and completion planned for February 2027.

You will set out and control dimensions, monitor tolerances, coordinate specialist subcontractors, support site operations, and maintain quality records and ITPs in line with drawings and specs to

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Site Engineer on heavy civil/highways projects.
• Strong setting out and dimensional control skills.
• Experience with sheet piling operations and reinforced concrete works.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specs and tolerances.
• Experience overseeing subcontractors and coordinating site activities.
• Knowledge of QA processes, inspections and records.
• Competence with surveying equipment and civil engineering software.
• Valid CSCS card and SMSTS/SSSTS desirable.

Our client is seeking a Consultant Site Engineer to support the delivery of a major civil engineering project in South Lincolnshire. The works involve the replacement of approximately 150 metres of existing open channel, including extensive sheet piling and reinforced concrete structures. This freelance consultancy assignment is expected to run from the week commencing 21 September 2026 through to February 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

• Setting out and managing dimensional control for sheet piling and reinforced concrete works
• Ensuring construction activities comply with design drawings, specifications and required tolerances
• Coordinating specialist subcontractor packages throughout the construction process
• Providing technical support to site operations and engineering teams
• Monitoring quality assurance procedures, including inspections, inspection and test plans and site records
• Reviewing and verifying as-built information
• Identifying and resolving engineering and construction issues on site
• Liaising with designers, subcontractors, site management and client representatives to support programme delivery

Job Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Site Engineer on heavy civil engineering or highways projects
• Strong practical knowledge of sheet piling operations
• Significant experience delivering reinforced concrete works
• Confident setting out and dimensional control skills
• Understanding of construction quality management, inspections and technical records
• Experience overseeing specialist subcontractors and coordinating site activities
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction information
• Competence using surveying equipment and engineering software

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

• HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Valid CSCS card
• SMSTS or SSSTS qualification
• Experience working on water, infrastructure, flood defence or drainage schemes

Contract Details:

• Based in commutable distance to site
