Due to the expansion of our Respiratory Department, we are looking for two Consultants to join our friendly team.
These posts offer an £18K relocation package together with up to £10K Research and Professional Development Grant to be used in the first 3 years.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to use your skills and experience to further develop local services and deliver excellent care, whilst benefiting from the incredible lifestyle that Cornwall has to offer, in an organisation that values work/life balance, with a job plan that enables you to make the most of living here.
All 10 PA job plans include 2.5 SPA as standard for new Consultants and 1.5 SPA for existing Consultants to support professional development and quality improvement, with separate admin sessions. Additional SPA for educational, research, or leadership activities are discussed during annual job plan reviews. Job plans are annualized, providing a day off in non-ward weeks and two days off following the respiratory weekend on call (8am-2pm). We also have a generous study leave budget and allowance.
We are a flexible team and, although both posts are offered as substantive 10 PA jobs, we encourage discussions about less than full-time working or fixed-term appointments.
These roles suit either an established Consultant looking to relocate and restore work/life balance, or a new Consultant wanting to establish themselves in a supportive department.
Main duties of the job
The post-holders will join a team of seven consultant chest physicians and an associate specialist. The department includes experienced specialist nurses, physiotherapists, and a physiologist. Ward teams comprise trainees and fellow posts, with many locums making the most of living here. The department is based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, with opportunities for community clinics across Cornwall and a developing integrated respiratory care team.
Our main respiratory ward includes a 6-bed Higher Care Unit/Acute Respiratory Unit for enhanced respiratory support. The ward has flexible bases to accommodate COVID and non-COVID ARU areas as demand varies.
We offer services such as bronchoscopy, EBUS, pleural clinics, and subspecialties in lung cancer, TB, cystic fibrosis, sleep medicine, ILD, and respiratory failure including home ventilation. We have close links with Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for severe asthma, thoracic surgery, and medical thoracoscopy.
We support applicants interested in developing additional subspecialty areas and welcome those aiming to enhance existing services.
We provide comprehensive mentoring, study leave, and support for revalidation and CPD.
