A leading NHS Trust in Shrewsbury seeks a Consultant Therapy Radiographer specializing in Urology and Palliative Radiotherapy. This role mandates high autonomy in delivering quality patient care, as well as involvement in mentorship, research, and service development. The position promises an exciting opportunity to enhance therapeutic services in a supportive environment, contributing significantly to the management of prostate cancer.
The post holder will be an independent Consultant Therapy Radiographer for Urology and Palliative Radiotherapy, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Therapeutic Radiographer. They will be accountable for delivering a high-quality service with a high degree of autonomy to patients in their care. The role encompasses the four core functions of the Consultant Therapy Radiographer: expert practice, professional leadership and consultancy, education and training, and practice and service development. Responsibilities include receiving new patient referrals, obtaining informed consent, identifying and defining treatment planning volumes, prescribing radiotherapy, approving complex treatment plans, participating in the MDT pathway, and collecting treatment outcomes throughout the patient pathway, including long-term follow-up. The post holder will also provide mentorship, clinical supervision, and be involved in research and development, acting as Principal Investigator, which is a major responsibility scheduled into the job plan.
Entry point will be 70% of the top of band 8B under Annex 21 or your current salary if higher, which will be pay protected. Progression to band 8B will occur after training and upon successful completion of pre-defined MSc modules and competencies in the relevant field.

The department features 3 Varian Truebeam Linear Accelerators, a Gulmay Unit, a Canon LB Exceed wide bore CT scanner, and radiographer-led virtual palliative simulation using Eclipse.
This is an exciting opportunity to expand the role of the Therapeutic Radiographer, as you will be part of the team establishing this new radiographer-led service for Urology patients.
Recent developments include extending the Lung SABR service to include bone and nodes, introducing SGRT with tattoo-less radiotherapy, and building a 4th bunker to house a replacement Truebeam with SGRT and a 6DOF couch.
