Consultant Psychiatrist - North View Services - Vale Ward

Job summary

The post holder is expected to work 10 programmed activities per week. After appointment, a review meeting will be scheduled no later than three months with the Lead Consultant to revise the job plan and objectives. The programmed activities are split as follows: 7.5 for direct clinical care and 2.5 for supporting professional activities, as recommended by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical leadership for the ward team and trainees.
• Manage a 17-bed ward with admissions from across the trust's area.
• Conduct daily ward reviews and rounds, supporting the team in completing CPA.
• Assess new admissions to the service.
• Assist in diagnosing and formulating management plans for all presentations.
• Assess and manage risks, including vulnerability, suicide, health and safety, and harm to others.
• Coordinate care with pharmacists.
• Prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings, and attend hearings.
• Handle consent to treatment paperwork and other MHA tasks such as section 17 leave, renewals, and CTOs if required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, including forensic and rehabilitation psychiatrists.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• MRCPsych or an equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of inclusion.
• Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months.
• Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months.
• In good standing with the GMC, with no warnings or conditions on practice.

Salary range: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum, pro-rata if applicable.
