An established industry player is seeking a part-time Consultant Psychiatrist specializing in Substance Use to lead and shape service delivery in Midlothian. Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
This is a permanent, part-time (24 hours per week) position based at No.11 Dalkeith.
NHS Lothian and Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership seek to appoint a part-time 6PA Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Use to oversee psychiatric and medical assessments and care of patients referred to Midlothian.
The post holder will serve as the lead clinician for treating substance use in Midlothian, shaping service delivery focused on resilience, rehabilitation, and recovery. The role involves recruiting and retaining patients into treatment services, supporting more patients through specialist input within Primary Care, and increasing service flexibility.
The Consultant Psychiatrist is expected to conduct weekly outpatient clinics at No.11 Dalkeith and other primary care settings in Midlothian, along with weekly multidisciplinary team meetings at the team base.
Supervision of non-consultant medical staff, trainees, or career-grade doctors, in line with guidelines, is a fundamental aspect of this role.
The candidate must already hold Approved Medical Practitioner status under Section 22 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 or be eligible for relevant training to attain AMP status upon starting.
This position has no on-call commitments.
