Consultant Psychiatrist - Female Personality Disorders

We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Hospital Beckton, providing senior medical care to 15 inpatients on Upping Ward, our Intensive Support Service for women with personality disorder and complex mental health needs.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining inpatient care, auditing medical services to ensure quality in line with GMC standards and other professional guidelines.

Your expertise will drive life-changing treatments, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

There are opportunities for career progression to Medical Director through our management schemes.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Hospital Beckton is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The hospital has four specialist wards, including PICU, acute admissions, and personality disorder services.

We accept both emergency and planned admissions, aiming to support recovery and community reintegration through a broad range of therapies provided by a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, responsible for patient treatment plans and liaising with the multidisciplinary team, acting as a positive role model.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Lead high-quality care for Upping Ward patients
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Oversee patient treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
  • Lead investigations, diagnosis, treatment, ward rounds, and audits
  • Implement risk assessments and clinical governance
  • Supervise reports for tribunals and attend hearings
  • Coordinate with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave
  • Maintain patient records
  • Communicate regularly with senior staff and stakeholders
  • Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards
  • Contribute to on-call duties
