Job summary

Priory Hospital Preston is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join an adult mental health unit offering acute care and eating disorder treatment. The role carries clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews and detentions as Responsible Clinician.

It is a part-time, 22.5 hours per week, site-based post. Entry requires GMC Specialist Register inclusion, Section 12(2) approval, and Approved Clinician status.

Qualifications

• MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
• CCT or equivalent.
• Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development.
• Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Take clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds and risk reviews.
• Act as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
• Supervise referrals and admissions, including pre-admission assessments.
• Provide psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team for assessment and treatment of adults.
• Assist staff with patient care plan assessment and implementation.
• Carry out routine tasks to support patient wellbeing, dignity and treatment.

What the job involves

• Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and developing a therapeutic milieu
• Acting as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983
• Supervising referral and admission, including contributing to pre-admission assessments of young people with other team members
• Offering a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team on the assessment, formulation and treatment of adults
• Assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans
• Carrying out routine tasks as directed or delegated to support patient wellbeing, dignity and treatment
