We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic consultant with appropriate clinical experience to join our team of 11 paediatric Gastroenterologists working across GI Allergy and Neurogastroenterology & Motility Units. The GI Allergy service provides specialist multi‑disciplinary care to Central and North London and hosts an active clinical research unit. We aim to expand our expertise especially in Upper GI motility assessment and treatments, with related research in this subspecialty.

  • Attend service‑wide MDTs such as histology and radiology meetings.
  • Perform 2 fixed outpatient clinics per week and, every other week, undertake an acute paediatric gastroenterology assessment unit (PGAU) or endoscopy/manometry under general anaesthesia.
  • Contribute to the development of a nasal endoscopy service within the GI allergy service.
  • Assist in performing, analysing and reporting specialist impedance and manometric studies; support a manometry list to the motility unit if required.
  • Supervise trainees in other GI investigations.
  • Provide 1 in 10 on‑call commitment for 24‑hour cover, including weekend and public holiday ward rounds.
  • Hold senior leadership responsibility for the management of patient care and lead a team of middle‑grade doctors in the in‑patient care of children.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Full GMC registration (obtained by designated start date).
  • MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent.

  • On GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics (CCT or equivalent), or within 6 months at time of interview. For Portfolio Pathway applicants (formerly CESR), registration must be achieved at application time.
  • Valid BLS training; desirable APLS, EPLS and NLS.
  • Extensive experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology, with training in recognised Paediatric GI units.
  • Understanding of multi‑system allergic disease, EGID and their impact on the digestive system.
  • Sub‑specialty experience in long‑term management of primary and secondary motility disorders of the GI tract, including oesophageal motility disorders, PIPO and intestinal failure.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate with colleagues, children and families.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills; ability to prioritise clinical needs and manage time and workload under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of information governance.
  • Experience in research publications, grant track record and membership of BSPGHAN/ESPGHAN or equivalent is desirable.
  • Experience of leading clinical audit processes, teaching students and multidisciplinary team, and working in shared care clinics and clinical networks is desirable.
