We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking surgeon to join the Stockport Trauma & Orthopaedic Department.
The successful candidate will have a particular focus on knee surgery. There can be further consideration over additional areas of interest to the candidate. Demonstrable fellowship training in the above aspects of knee surgery is essential.
About the Role
This is a full-time post (10 PAs), with 1 in 12 weekend and weekday on call commitments.
The post-holder will agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Director once in post; broadly the job plan includes theatre sessions, outpatient sessions, admin, team meetings and SPA sessions.
The appointee can be given full support withappraisals, continuing professional development and revalidation. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to access support from our leading transformation team, who recently supported a theatre transformation programme which won a HSJ award in 2024.
The successful candidate will be expected to fully contribute to the administrative, governance, teaching and research activities within the department.
Candidates must have:
full GMC registration;
entry on the GMC Specialist Register, or be committed to be within 6 months of interview;
higher orthopaedic surgery qualification; and
minimum of 1 year dedicated knee surgery fellowship -
completed or planned

The Trust has a comprehensive orthopaedic service for both elective and trauma cases provided on the Stepping Hill Hospital site, with a total of 76 beds. This includes a brand new, purpose built trauma ward complete with MDT facilities.
There is a 6 bedded intensive care unit with a high dependency unit of 8 beds. These beds are used flexibly to accommodate both level 2 & level 3 care.
There is a purpose built out patients department with a dedicated children’s facility situated adjacent to the Orthopaedic unit. We also provide outpatient services to the residents of North Derbyshire at Buxton Hospital.
