Job summary

Medacs Healthcare in Inverness seeks an Ophthalmology Consultant to join a high‑quality eye service. You will deliver outpatient clinics, diagnostics and surgical pathways with on‑call duties on a 1:7 rota, handling cataract and general ophthalmology caseload.

The role requires Full GMC registration, NHS experience and proven cataract surgery skills. You will work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to service development and patient‑centred care.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Minimum six months NHS experience.
• Strong cataract surgery experience and broad general ophthalmology competence.
• Evidence of ongoing CPD.
• Clear and confident communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality outpatient, diagnostic and surgical ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery and general ophthalmology care
• Provide subspecialty expertise where appropriate, supporting overall departmental capacity
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth and effective patient pathways
• Support junior doctors, nursing teams and wider clinical colleagues
• Contribute day to day‑case surgery provision in line with national and departmental standards
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with GMC and NHS Trust requirements
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, MDT activity and service development
• Provide clear advice and guidance to patients, carers, GPs and healthcare partners

Ophthalmology Consultant available in Inverness 21st September - 21st December The clinical aspects would be as follows which could change pending the on call requirement and the on call requirement is Consultant is 2nd on Call 0800 - 2000 hours with a 1:7 rota but with gaps in the rota this could be more frequent: 3 x Cataract Theatres per Week (minimum of 8 cataracts per list inclusive of ISBCS) 3 x Glaucoma Outpatient Clinics per Week 1 x General Outpatient Clinic per Week 1 x Virtual Glaucoma Clinic per Week (review OCT and VF scans) Job Summary We're recruiting an experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join a high‑quality eye service, delivering safe, patient‑centred care across outpatient clinics, diagnostics and surgical pathways.

This role suits a locum consultant with at least six months recent NHS experience who can adapt quickly to NHS systems, pathways and multidisciplinary working.

You'll contribute to comprehensive ophthalmology services, including cataract care and general ophthalmology, with the opportunity to provide subspecialty input depending on service needs.
