Job summary

Medacs Healthcare is recruiting an experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join a high‑quality eye service in Belfast. This locum role covers outpatient clinics, diagnostics and surgical pathways, with a focus on safe, patient‑centred care and strong cataract surgery skills.

You will work within multidisciplinary teams, provide subspecialty input as needed, support junior colleagues, and contribute to service development.

Qualifications

• GMC registration with licence to practise.
• Minimum six months NHS experience.
• Strong cataract surgery experience and broad ophthalmology competence.
• Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality outpatient, diagnostic and surgical ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery and general ophthalmology care
• Provide subspecialty expertise where appropriate, supporting overall departmental capacity
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth and effective patient pathways
• Support junior doctors, nursing teams and wider clinical colleagues
• Contribute day to day‑case surgery provision in line with national and departmental standards
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with GMC and NHS Trust requirements
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, MDT activity and service development
• Provide clear advice and guidance to patients, carers, GPs and healthcare partners

We're recruiting an experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join a high‑quality eye service, delivering safe, patient‑centred care across outpatient clinics, diagnostics and surgical pathways. This role suits a locum consultant with at least six months recent NHS experience who can adapt quickly to NHS systems, pathways and multidisciplinary working.

You'll contribute to comprehensive ophthalmology services, including cataract care and general ophthalmology, with the opportunity to provide subspecialty input depending on service needs.

You're a clinically confident Ophthalmology Consultant with strong surgical skills and up‑to‑date knowledge across general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. You value teamwork, communicate clearly and take pride in delivering a positive patient experience.

You're committed to maintaining high standards of care, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to continuous service improvement.
