Job description

ERM is seeking a motivated consultant to join our corporate sustainability and climate change team, focusing on supporting our Net Zero services.

The risks associated with a changing climate are recognized as systemic to the global economy. There is increasing pressure from investors, regulators, customers, and society for businesses and governments to transition to a lower carbon economy. ERM is well-positioned to help clients in both the finance and corporate sectors navigate this transition, from strategic advice to practical implementation.

It is an exciting time to join, as we respond to a significant increase in demand for services related to:

  1. Developing corporate GHG inventories (scope 1, 2, and 3) aligned with industry best practices, including portfolio GHG inventories for financial clients;
  2. Identifying technological and strategic GHG reduction opportunities in company operations and the value chain, integrating these into strategic roadmaps for climate action;
  3. Advising on appropriate use of offsets;
  4. Setting targets that align with stakeholder expectations and the goals of the Paris Agreement;
  5. Supporting measurement, monitoring, and reporting of GHG inventories and progress against targets (e.g., CDP, SBTi, Corporate Reports);
  6. Acting as a trusted advisor on trends in GHG accounting, reporting, and target setting.

The team collaborates closely with ERM’s other practice areas, especially the wider climate change and corporate sustainability team. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work on areas such as sustainability strategy, transactional due diligence, EHS performance management and assurance, and risk management to deliver value-added services to ERM’s international clients.

Primary Responsibilities

The position requires the successful candidate to:

  1. Analyze and interpret technical information to understand and articulate commercial consequences;
  2. Manage client demands and the often time-sensitive requests;
  3. Manage projects and tasks, including completing proposals; and
  4. Build relationships with clients through supporting account management and project delivery.

The candidate will be accountable for meeting personal billability targets and other relevant metrics.

Technical Knowledge Required
  • A relevant technical degree in environmental sciences or related field;
  • Experience in environmental consulting, climate change, or related industries;
  • Understanding of the finance sector, including ESG and sustainability issues relevant to investment and lending sectors;
  • Good knowledge of GHG accounting and reporting principles, mechanisms, methodologies, and schemes (e.g., GHG Protocol, SBTi, EEIO);
  • Ability to identify and recommend suitable methodologies and articulate their benefits;
  • Knowledge of climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy, including key regulatory and market drivers.
Technical Skills
  • Experience managing small to mid-sized projects within larger initiatives;
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially advanced Excel skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Experience in business development and proposal writing;
  • Strong numeracy skills and familiarity with large datasets;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to synthesize reports to a high standard.
Other Requirements
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to work in a dynamic, international team;
  • Motivation, initiative, quick learning, and adaptability to new subject areas.

ERM values our people’s safety, career development, and well-being. We promote a diverse, inclusive culture that embraces differences. We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid and home working options. Our colleagues enjoy a respectful, collaborative environment across services and geographies.
