A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Consultant Medical Microbiologist to join their clinical infection team. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive microbiology services across multiple hospital sites, with a focus on infection prevention and management. Position Details: Applications are invited from existing Consultants or Specialist Registrars within 6 months of CCT for a full-time 11 PA replacement Consultant in Medical Microbiology/Infection. Part-time (minimum 0.5 WTE) applications will also be considered.
This is a replacement post within a clinical infection team comprising 5.5 consultants, 1 Specialist Doctor, clinical fellows, and supported by 51 laboratory staff across three hospital sites: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford), Kent & Canterbury Hospital (Canterbury), and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (Margate). The microbiology laboratory is based at William Harvey Hospital.
The appointee will provide comprehensive microbiology, virology, and infection prevention services, with opportunities to specialize and lead in specific infectious disease areas. Responsibilities include direct clinical care, liaison with multidisciplinary teams, participation in a rota for microbiology duties, ward rounds, and involvement in infection control and management of patients across various hospital units.
We are part of the Kent and Medway Pathology Network, a partnership of seven laboratories serving nearly 2 million people, with ongoing projects to enhance service delivery through digital transformation and collaborative training programs.
